Chapter 2
Once you’ve become one, you can never go back. All it takes is one bite and you’re turned. Some victims take awhile to change, while others are right away. However, if the victim is sucked dry of all blood, they will die.
Unfortunately, when they have become the undead, there’s no turning back. He or she will turn more innocent people, as well. They feast on blood because they need it. It is key to their survival. That is why hunters must track them and destroy as many as possible. Also, this is why it is unusual that one would want to contact a hunter.

“Meh, it’s probably just a prank of some sort.” Racquelle finally let out, trying to reassure Uriel. Or, am I reassuring myself, she thought nervously.
“Maybe… But I don’t know,” pondered Uriel. “I mean, why go to all the trouble?”
“Well…” Racquelle searched her mind for some other reasonable explanation, when suddenly, CRASH.
“What was that?”
The two raced up the stairs to find Otieno kneeling down, trying to pick up a broken glass. His hands were covered in blood.
“Otieno, are you alri…” But Racquelle stopped. The look in his eyes told otherwise.
Uriel pulled out her revolver and pointed it at her vampire friend. “Resist the urge…” Her voice was strong. Unlike, Racquelle at the moment. Otieno had been like this once before, the horrors still vivid in Racquelle’s mind.
Otieno wasn’t himself anymore. The part of him that was still human continued to fight on inside him, but it was losing miserably. Every breath Uriel and Racquelle took increased his hunger for blood.
“Resist it Otieno!” Uriel demanded, but he was slowly coming towards them. “Where’s his antidote?” she asked Racquelle without taking her eyes off of Otieno.
“I… I don’t know! Quynh usually helps him with that.”
“Well if he attacks us, I have no choice but to…”
“No, you can’t!” interrupted Racquelle.
Just then, the sound of running footsteps came from the hall. Otieno didn’t even turn his gaze away from them as Quynh rushed in. She had a needle with neon green fluid in it. Quickly stabbing the needle into Otieno’s chest, Quynh then backed off as the antidote took affect and he fell weakly to the floor. Running back to his side, Quynh sat down and placed his head gently in her lap.
“It’s all better now,” she coarsely whispered to him as she stroked his hair. “You’re alright.” Her hands were trembling uncontrollably.
Uriel placed her revolver firmly in her belt. “I’ve got to get home, I’m exhausted and haven’t been sleeping well…” and she left the kitchen.
Racquelle walked over to Quynh, who was still stroking Otieno’s dark brown hair.
“Are you alright?” she asked Quynh with great concern as Racquelle placed her hand on her shoulder.
“I’ll be fine. We’ll be fine…” Quynh whispered almost to herself.
“Go home, get some rest,” she turned her purplish gaze away from Otieno to look at Racquelle. “Everything will be fine.”
With that, Racquelle grabbed her bag and placed the mysterious letter into it. Shouldering her bag, she headed out the door.

When Racquelle got into her apartment, she flopped onto her couch with the envelope. She glanced at her watch. The blue glowing numbers read 11:45pm. God I’m tired, maybe I should be leaving this for tomorrow. However, something was urging her to rip open the envelope and read its contents. She placed it down on the table and rolled off her left sock, examining the bandage down her lower leg and ankle. It was the finishing touches of white rose tattoo that began at the top of her hip and the vine like stem that went down to her ankle.
Two and a half years ago, Racquelle had the beautiful design started. David would tell her how he could picture how it would look when it was finally finished. “Beautiful, but not as beautiful as you.” He would say, and then he would kiss her.
Racquelle recalled how nervous she had been waiting for the man to get her tattoo done. David held her hand the whole time. He even got his own tattoo that went across his back from shoulder to shoulder. It read “Only God Shall Judge Me” in a type of Old English font. Every time Racquelle had to get another part of her tattoo coloured in, David was there.
Of course until about four months ago, Racquelle thought sadly, ripping off the bandage. She looked down at the envelope again. Open it, a voice inside her screamed.
“Fine,” she said out loud as she carefully opened the envelope. As she unfolded the letter and began to read it, her hands started to tremble again.
Racquelle,
I have finally decided to contact you. It has taken me four months to build up the courage to tell you the truth. I have died but have been reborn in a way. I am now the thing that you hunt, but please I need to see you again. Meet me by the fountain in the park near the hunter’s base tomorrow night.
David
P.S. If you do not believe that I wrote this letter, step out to your balcony.
Racquelle blinked in confusion at what she had just read. Throwing it down she ran to the balcony. There hanging by a blue ribbon was a golden bracelet. No, it can’t be, thought Racquelle as she untied the bracelet from the balcony. She looked at the inside of the bracelet, it had something engraved on its inside. It read: “Forever and Always Love Racquelle”. A tear rolled down her cheek as she looked out into the night sky.
For David’s nineteenth birthday, Racquelle had saved up her money to buy him that gold bracelet and had it engraved. Now the same bracelet that was supposed to have been buried with him was in her hand.
“Maybe this is all just another dream,” she whispered. So she headed for bed, placing the bracelet on her bedside table. “Everything will be back to normal tomorrow.”
